SEASIDE, Calif. - Stanford women's golf began the 2021-22 season on Monday at the Molly Intercollegiate at Bayonet Golf Course, firing a two-round total of 597 (+21). The Cardinal is currently in third place, just six strokes behind co-leaders San Jose State and UCLA.

Freshmen Rose Zhang and Caroline Sturdza led the way for Stanford in their collegiate debuts. Zhang, the No. 1 Amateur in the world, fired rounds of 73-72 and is currently tied for third with a 1-over 145. She is just two strokes off the individual lead. Zhang led the field with 31 pars on Monday, adding two birdies against just three bogeys in her opening 36 holes. Sturdza shot an opening round 76 (+4), followed by a second-round 73 (+1) and is in ninth with 18 holes to play. Playing as an individual, Calista Reyes also had a strong day, shooting a 6-over 150 to sit in a tie for 10th. 

Stanford will look to climb the leaderboard over the final 18 holes of play on Tuesday morning.
