OMAHA, Neb. – Another Cardinal swimmer is Tokyo Bound.
Incoming freshman Regan Smith held off a late charge in the final 15 meters to claim victory in the 100m back at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Tuesday at the CHI Health Center.
Smith – who signed with Stanford in 2020 but deferred enrollment for a year after the postponement of the Olympics – swam 58.35 to make her first Olympic team.
The day after making her third Olympic team, Katie Ledecky advanced to the finals in both the 200m free (1:57.58 / 1:55.83) and 1500m free (15:43.10) after she posted the fastest time in both events. Ledecky will be joined in the finals of the 200m free by senior Brooke Forde who used a late charge in the final 20 meters to finish second in her heat of the semifinals, 1:57.82.
Torri Huske also advanced to the final of the 200 IM with a sixth-place showing in the semifinals (2:11.42).
Stanford continues the Olympic Trials tomorrow with the prelims and semifinals of the 200m fly, and the finals of the 200m free, 200m IM and 1500m free.
