TEMPE, Ariz. – Fighting to stay undefeated, fifth-year senior Jacie Lemos netted her fourth goal of the afternoon in double overtime to give No. 16 Stanford the 22-21 win on the road at Arizona State on Friday.
Playing for the first time in 16 days, Stanford improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Pac-12, while Arizona State dropped to 7-4 and 4-3 in the conference. The 7-0 mark is the Cardinal's best start to a season since 2011 when it was 8-0.
The Cardinal won the draw control battle in the game, 29-16, including 17 in the first half. ASU out shot Stanford, 41-38, and held a 28-24 advantage in ground balls.
Senior Galen Lew matched her career-high with five goals, including the equalizer with 1:51 left in regulation to force overtime.

Lemos scored all four of her goals in the second half and overtime period. She also had an assist on a goal by freshman Ailish Kelly in the first half to go with two draw controls and a ground ball.

Kelly and senior Ali Baiocco each had four goals for Stanford, while Baiocco dished out three assists for a team-best seven points. Kelly scored three of her four goals in the first half to keep the Cardinal close.
Stanford trailed 12-10 at halftime after having been down by as many as five goals. The Sun Devils scored three straight in 1:42 to open the second half and take a 15-10 lead. ASU scored again at the 24:10 mark in the second half for a six-point advantage – its largest of the game.
Fifth-year Daniella McMahon notched two goals, while Katy Gilbert, Anna Griffith and Mikaela Watson rounded out the Stanford scoring.

Sixth-year Genesis Lucero recorded 15 draw controls – one shy of her career-high and the third-most in a single game in program history. Fifth-year Kyra Pelton tallied a career-best 10 draw controls to go with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Senior Trudie Grattan started in goal for Stanford and had three saves in 18:41. Sophomore Kara Rahaim earned the win and registered a career-high seven saves.
The Sun Devils were led by Carley Adams's six goals, while Kerri Clayton added five. Stanford is now 7-0 all-time against Arizona State and is the only team to defeat the Sun Devils in Tempe under current head coach Tim McCormack.
Stanford closes out the weekend on Sunday at USC. The game is slated for 1 p.m. at McAlister Field in Los Angeles.
