Overtime Thriller

BOULDER, Colo. – Jacie Lemos scored with 22 seconds left in regulation and Mikaela Watson finished off the Buffaloes in overtime, propelling No. 20 Stanford to a 10-9 overtime victory at Colorado on Saturday.

Trailing 9-6 midway through the second half, the Cardinal started to mount its comeback. Senior Katherine Gjertsen scored her second goal with 13:48 remaining in the game. Four and a half minutes later, Watson scored on a free position shot to pull the Cardinal to within one.

With under a minute left, Stanford regained possession and stormed down the field. Fifth-year senior Daniella McMahon found Lemos, who took an off-balance shot which found the back of the net with just 22 seconds on the clock.
 


Senior Galen Lew was a consistent force for the Cardinal offensively all afternoon. She led the team with six points, including three goals and three assists. Watson finished with three goals of her own, while Gjertsen had two and Lemos and freshman Ailish Kelly had one apiece.
 


Senior Ali Baiocco finished with  pair of assists for Stanford, while McMahon and sophomore Jay Browne had one each.

Senior goalkeeper Trudie Grattan earned the starting spot in goal and collected eight saves to earn the win.

Colorado was led by Charlie Rudy's three goals, while goalkeeper Julia Lisella had 16 saves in the loss.

Stanford remains on the road to continue Pac-12 conference play at Oregon on Monday. The game is slated for 3 p.m. on
