INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore Riley Loos finished second in the all-around competition on day one from the 2021 USA Gymnastics Winter Cup to earn an automatic spot on the US Senior National Team.
The native of El Dorado Hills, Calif. finished the competition with an overall score of 83.250 – second only to Michigan senior Cameron Bock's 84.150. 2019 Nissen-Emery Award winner, and current Senior National Team member, Yul Moldauer took third with a mark of 82.600.
Loos captured the event title on floor (14.250) and vault (14.750) while finishing top eight on all six events.
The top six finishers in the all-around on day one qualify for spots on the Senior National Team, as Shane Wiskus, Allan Bower and Paul Juda also earned selections alongside Bock, Loos and Moldauer.
Having already inked his name to the National Team roster, Loos will now return to Stanford and rejoin team activities after completing a mandatory quarantine period.
Former Cardinal Eddie Penev competed on floor exercise and vault, finishing second on vault with a score of 14.550 and third on floor at 14.050.
Future Cardinal Taylor Burkhart finished 15th in the all-around competition, with his 13.400 on high bar placing sixth. Fellow incoming freshman Khoi Young competed across three events, entering on floor, pommel horse and vault. His 13.250 on pommel horse was good for fifth place.
