The Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray announced the addition of Alex Yang on Friday. Yang, a native of Hong Kong, comes to Stanford from Laurel Spring School in Ojai, Calif.
"We are excited to welcome Alex Yang to the Stanford Golf family," Ray said. "Along with strong academic horsepower, Alex brings a wealth of experience and success in both competitive junior and amateur golf around the globe."
Yang was a 2018 AJGA Rolex First Team All-American and earned honorable mention in 2019. He is ranked 283rd in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and 190th in the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings.
Most recently, Yang was a Sweet 16 participant in the 2020 Western Amateur after finishing tied for seventh in stroke play. He also won low amateur at the 2020 Hong Kong Open on the Asian Tour with a tie for 13th.
Yang's 2018 All-American season was highlighted by co-medalist honors at the US Amateur Qualifier at Hacienda, a second-place finish at the Ping Invitational, a third-place finish at the Junior PGA Championship and a 12th-place finish at the Dogwood Invitational.
In 2019 he was part of the winning Team USA at the Junior Presidents Cup, as well as a West Team participant at the Wyndham Cup. He finished second at the Gobbler Amateur that season, third at the Polo Junior Golf Classic and fourth at the Northwest Open Invitational while finishing with low amateur honors.
"Alex has size, great touch, and strong upside physically," Ray concluded. "We believe he is only going to get better. He is a student of the game and a great fit for our program."
