REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Hitting the water for the first time in 2020, Stanford sailing picked up where it left off at the Jeremy McIntyre team race, taking first and second overall. The women's team won the regatta with a perfect 16-0 record.
The Cardinal women, led by skippers Michelle Lahrkamp, Stephanie Houck, Christina Sakellaris and Hallie Schiffman, and crews Abigail Tindall, Camille White and AnaClare Sole, went 8-0 in both Saturday and Sunday action.
The women had the winning boat in 14 of the 16 matchups, and took the top three positions in three bouts. 10 of the 16 races included Stanford finishing all three of its boats in the top four.
The co-ed team used three skippers in John Kirkpatrick, Justin Lim and Telis Athanasopoulos Yogo, and five crews in Patricia Gerlin, Taylor Kirkpatrick, Laurel Foster, Sammy Pickell and Mathew Hogan. The Cardinal's only loss on day one came to the women's team, going 7-1 overall. A 5-3 finish on Sunday helped the group lock in a second place overall finish for the regatta, winning the tiebreaker over UC Santa Barbara.
Hawaii (9-7), Cal Maritime (9-7), Northwestern (5-11), Cal Poly (5-11), Cal (4-12) and Western Washington (0-16) rounded out the scoring.
Stanford returns to action March 7-8 at three regattas on the east coast: The Spring Coed Interconference at College of Charleston, the St. Mary's Team Race and the Navy Women's Interconference.
