OKLAHOMA CITY - No. 25 Stanford produced its best road score and claimed an event title on beam, despite No. 1 Oklahoma posting a 197.650-196.000 victory at the Perfect 10 Challenge on Friday night.
Friday's meet presented the Cardinal with an exciting opportunity: squaring off against the nation's best program on a neutral-site stage at the Cox Convention Center.
For the second straight dual, Stanford closed the meet with confidence and captured an event crown in the final rotation. After wrapping up its competition on Sunday against Cal with a floor title, the Cardinal delivered a 49.275 on beam, besting the Sooners' mark of 49.225. It was the first time this season in which Oklahoma did not win beam.
"I was proud of how we showed a lot of tenacity tonight and fought for every routine and tenth," said head coach Tabitha Yim. "There were some nerves at the beginning of the meet but I was proud of the way we settled in and finished on a high note for the second straight week. We are looking forward to carrying that momentum into Tucson."
Chloe Widner's career-high 9.925 paced Stanford, which showcased its depth by owning four of the top six marks in the event. Ashley Tai (9.875) established a season-best total while Kyla Bryant (9.850) and Taylor Lawson (9.850) were right behind.
The Cardinal also received a notable performance from Morgan Hoang, who equaled her career high with a 9.875 on floor.
Navigating through a challenging stretch featuring two meets in three days and four overall during a two-week span, Stanford next travels to No. 22 Arizona in a dual televised on Pac-12 Networks.
