STANFORD, Calif. – Naomi Girma, Madison Haley, Catarina Macario, Katie Meyer and Kiki Pickett were each named All-West Region by United Soccer Coaches, as announced Monday.
Girma, Haley, Macario and Pickett each earned first-team honors while Meyer was picked for the third team. All-Region selections are nominated for All-America recognition, which will be announced on Thursday night in conjunction with the College Cup banquet in San Jose.
Girma, a sophomore captain from San Jose who was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, has played nearly every minute of the season with two goals to her name. The Cardinal has earned shutouts in 13 of its last 17 matches and has allowed just 13 shots during the postseason.
Alongside Girma on the back line, Pickett, a junior from Santa Barbara, California, has registered a career-high eight assists while earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors.
Haley, a first-team All-Pac-12 honoree who hails from Dallas, has career highs in goals (11) and assists (12) this season, having appeared in 22-of-23 contests for the Cardinal.
Macario, the frontrunner for her second-straight MAC Hermann Trophy out of San Diego, leads the nation in virtually every offensive category – goals (32), assists (23), points (87), game-winning goals (12) and shots (149).
In 14 appearances, all starts, redshirt-freshman Meyer, a native of Newbury Park, California, carries a 0.23 goals-against average and a 0.769 save percentage into the College Cup.
The Cardinal (22-1-0, 11-0-0) recently booked its 10th trip to the College Cup with an emphatic 5-1 win over No. 4 BYU on Friday. No. 1 Stanford takes on No. 7 UCLA on Friday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
