Five to U.S. Championships

U.S. Gymnastics Championships Opens in a new window

STANFORD, Calif. - Five Stanford gymnasts will represent the Cardinal at this week's U.S. Gymnastics Championships from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., as former Cardinal Akash Modi and Eddie Penev accompany incoming freshmen Riley Loos, Zachary Martin and JR Chou at the four-day competition beginning on Thursday.

Modi, Penev and Loos will compete at the senior level, while Martin and Chou, a member of the U.S. Junior National Team with Loos, will represent Stanford at the junior level.

The four-day competition provides the first opportunity for fans to see the men and women who will be in the mix heading into the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

During the course of the four days, 46 women and 77 men will vie for junior and senior national team berths and national titles. Performances at the U.S. Championships are also part of the selection process for the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. The U.S. Championships is part of the Team USA Champions Series.

Fans who are unable to make it to Kansas City can watch all of the competitive sessions, as well as Wednesday's podium training, online or television. All four podium training (junior and senior), junior competitive sessions and senior international feeds will be streamed on https://www.usgymchampionships.com and YouTube. 

NBC Sports will have live coverage of the senior competitions.
