STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman right-handed pitcher Alex Williams has been named Freshman All-America by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, as announced Wednesday.
Williams, a native of Castro Valley, California, carries a 2.56 earned-run average and 0.97 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched) in 14 appearances, including 10 starts. Williams has issued just eight walks with 43 strikeouts in 63.1 innings pitched, holding opposing hitters to a .226 batting average.

With Stanford's season on the line going into Sunday's must-win contest against Sacramento State, Williams delivered a complete-game performance, striking out a career high seven in the Cardinal's 12-3 win. The Cardinal went on to win two more elimination games to book a trip to Starkville, Mississippi to face No. 3 Mississippi State in the Super Regional round.
