STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford will be well represented in the 2019 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, taking place May 20-25 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Emily Arbuthnott, Michaela Gordon and Melissa Lord will participate in the singles draw.
Ranked No. 46 nationally, Arbuthnott (30-5 overall, 17-2 duals) is Stanford's winningest player, competing primarily at the No. 4 spot. Arbuthnott owns a team-best eight clinchers, has won 12 of her last 13 matches and is 9-2 this season in three-setters.
Stanford's highest-ranked player at No. 24, Gordon (21-9 overall, 13-4 duals) has played all but three of her matches at the top spot in the lineup. Gordon has supplied three clinchers and is 10-7 against nationally-ranked foes.
Ranked No. 32 nationally, Lord (23-8 overall, 16-3 duals) stands four wins shy of 100 for her career. Lord enters the postseason riding a 10-match winning streak and is 15-0 all-time in NCAA team matches.
In doubles, the Cardinal is represented by its top two teams: Caroline Lampl/Kimberly Yee and Arbuthnott/Gordon.
Ranked No. 14 nationally, the senior duo of Lampl/Yee (16-10 overall, 10-6 duals) has produced an impressive season, including a runner-up finish at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships back in October.
Ranked No. 22 nationally, the pairing of Arbuthnott/Gordon (18-5 overall, 13-2 duals) has held down the No. 2 spot and enters NCAA action having won seven in a row.
Stanford will host New Mexico State (15-9, 3-2 WAC) at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, in its NCAA Tournament opener. Syracuse (13-12, 5-9 ACC) will face Wisconsin (18-5, 9-2 Big Ten) at 9 a.m. in the day's opening match. The winners meet in the second round on Sunday, May 5, at 12 p.m. Stanford has won 59 of its last 62 matches at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The most decorated program in college history and the winningest program on The Farm, Stanford has won 19 of the possible 37 NCAA championships. Stanford owns a 153-19 all-time record in the postseason since the NCAA Tournament went to its present format in 1982. The Cardinal has won 20 national titles overall in school history, also claiming the 1978 AIAW crown.
The Cardinal (22-1, 10-0 Pac-12), which has hosted NCAA first and second round competition at Taube Family Tennis Stadium every year since the inception of the 64-team format in 1999, is seeded No. 3 in the postseason draw.
