Rain Check

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford easily dispatched of Santa Clara 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Competing for the first time since defeating Vanderbilt back on Feb. 23, Stanford (7-1) was in control from start to finish. Thursday's matchup was rescheduled from the initial meeting three weeks ago, which was postponed due to rain.

The Cardinal, which has won 53 of its last 56 home matches, featured a shuffled lineup overall but experienced little resistance from the Broncos (3-6).

The doubles point was clinched at No. 3 by Niluka Madurawe and Janice Shin, a pairing that last saw action in November.

Making their dual match debuts, Madurawe and Sara Choy put the Cardinal on the brink of clinching. Madurawe won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot while Choy prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5.

The clincher came from Emma Higuchi, who defeated Katya Tabachnik 6-3, 6-2 on court four.

Stanford collected two more points before Maddie Pothoff's upset of Michaela Gordon at the top spot avoided the shutout.

The Cardinal next travels to Eugene on Sunday, squaring off against Oregon in its conference opener. Stanford has won 27 consecutive regular-season Pac-12 matches, with its last loss coming in the form of a 4-3 defeat at Arizona State back on March 5, 2016.
