STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Melissa Lord has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week for Feb. 26.
Lord provided one of five singles victories in No. 4 Stanford's 6-1 win over No. 7 Vanderbilt last weekend, defeating ninth-ranked Christina Rosca 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot of the lineup.
Lord's victory on Saturday came nearly nine months after she provided the clinching point in Stanford's 2018 NCAA championship victory over Vanderbilt. Last May, Lord outlasted Fernanda Contreras 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 in the deciding contest to secure the Cardinal's 19th NCAA crown in a 4-3 win over the Commodores.
Ranked No. 49 in the nation, Lord is 11-7 overall and 4-2 in duals while playing all of her matches at the No. 2 spot. A member of two NCAA championship teams (2016, 2018), Lord has compiled 84 career singles victories and is 15-0 all-time in NCAA team competition.
A public policy major, Lord is also a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention selection.
No. 4 Stanford hosts No. 9 Texas on Saturday, March 2, at noon.
