STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford opposite Jaylen Jasper and libero Kyle Dagostino have been selected the MPSF Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for February 11-17.
Jasper and Dagostino led Stanford to its first two MPSF wins of the season, outlasting No. 14 USC in five sets before sweeping Concordia on The Farm last week. The Cardinal improved to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Jasper averaged 5.62 kills, 0.38 aces and 6.38 points per set while hitting .369 against the Trojans and Eagles. The sophomore registered a career-high 29 kills on a .305 attack percentage to go with eight digs and three blocks versus USC. His 29 kills were the most by an MPSF player in two years. He followed up with 16 kills on .520 hitting, six digs and two aces in the sweep over Concordia. His 16 kills were the most in a three-set match by a Stanford player this season.
Dagostino anchored the Cardinal defense with 3.00 digs per set in the two matches. He had a match-high 14 digs against USC – one shy of his career-high. He also had zero reception errors in 32 attempts versus the Trojans. The redshirt senior added 10 digs in three sets versus Concordia, marking his fourth double-digit dig output of the season. The win gave head coach John Kosty the 200th of his career.
It marks the second weekly honor for both Jasper and Dagostino in 2019. Jasper also earned the offensive nod on Jan. 7, while Dagostino was previously recognized on Jan. 28.
