SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - For the 14th consecutive year, Stanford sailing won the Big Sail over Cal. The Cardinal won four of the five divisions for a 4-1 victory over the Bears at St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon.
In the shadow of the Golden Gate bridge, the two programs race a best-of-three in five divisions -- the women's and grandmasters divisions were added this year. Stanford won the varsity (2-1), women's (2-0), young (2-0) and grandmasters (2-0), while Cal claimed the first two races in the masters division for its lone point of the festive regatta.
Sophomore Jack Parkin served as skipper for the varsity and was joined by sophomore Mathew Hogan, senior Kathryn Booker and freshman Wiley Rogers.
On shore, there is a battle of the bands, which Stanford also won, obviously.
The Cardinal concludes its Fall season with the ICSA Match Race Nationals in Newport Beach this weekend.
