LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Junior Andrea Lee again showed why she is the nation's top collegiate golfer by finishing fifth overall Wednesday at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate contested at Royal Golf Club.
Lee went low during each of the event's three rounds, opening with a 3-under 69 and followed up with a 4-under 69 and 1-under 71. Lee's 13 birdies tied for seventh-best among the field, and her 3.80 par-4 scoring average ranked second overall.
The par-72, 6,267-yard track was softened by rain and thunderstorms during the season-opening event for the Stanford women's golf team, as the Cardinal finished ninth among 12 of the nation's top programs.
"We are very pleased with the progress we made every day in the learning category," said Anne Walker, Stanford's Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. "We faced the best teams in America this week, and even without our A-game, we were able to move up the leaderboard from day one.
"Aline Krauter was steady and very impressive in her Stanford debut. We are looking forward to working with her and watching her get better from here. Andrea was clutch as always. She showed once again why she is considered one of the best amateurs in the world and on track to be the best player in Stanford history."
Stanford (294-289-288) steadily improved with each round, capping the tournament with an even-par final round to finish 7-over through 54 holes.
Mika Liu (71-78-75) took 49th at 8-over. Ziyi Wang bounced back with an opening-round 80 with scores of 74-74 to place 53rd at 12-over. Calista Reyes (+22) was 60th in her collegiate debut.
Stanford quickly returns to action Thursday when it takes on Cal in the Big Match at Menlo Country Club.
