STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Tom Fawcett earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors all four years of his standout career with the Stanford men's tennis team. He was one of three all-conference honorees for the Cardinal in 2018. Freshman Axel Geller was a second-team selection and graduate student Eric Fomba was an honorable mention pick.
Fawcett, who was named an ITA All-American for the third time in his career last week, established himself among Stanford's all-time greats over the past four years. He ranks 27th in program history in career dual victories (53). The senior earned his fourth bid to the NCAA Singles Championship this spring. He competed in both the NCAA Singles and Double Championships.
Fawcett was ranked among the top-10 in the nation for the majority of the season and completed the year No. 13 in the final ITA poll. He finished his senior season 20-7 overall with an 11-4 mark in dual play with wins over 10 nationally-ranked opponents this season. He recorded four clinching points this season against No. 22 Tulane, No. 5 USC, No. 10 Illinois and No. 4 Georgia, earning Pac-12 Player of the Week honors twice during the season. Fawcett concluded his singles career on The Farm with a 90-37 record.
Geller finished his first collegiate season with an 18-7 overall record. He ranked No. 86 in the final ITA singles poll. He owned a 16-6 record in dual action, playing all his matches at No. 1 or No. 2 for the Cardinal. Geller defeated six nationally-ranked opponents and produced three match clinchers (two against California and one against Army). The freshman won his first eight dual matches, defeating six nationally-ranked opponents during that span.
Fawcett and Geller formed Stanford's No. 2 doubles team during the regular season, posting a 16-6 record. They earned a berth in the NCAA Doubles Championship, finishing the year No. 30 in the final ITA poll. Geller posted an 18-10 overall record in doubles play.
In his first season on The Farm, Fomba enjoyed a standout year. The Cardinal graduate student was 16-3 overall, owning a 12-2 mark in dual action at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles. He won his final nine decisions of the season. Fomba produced five clinching points for the Cardinal, highlighted by a stellar come-from-behind victory over No. 20 Arizona State on the road in March to help Stanford earn the 4-3 victory. Fomba also clinched Cardinal wins over No. 12 Baylor, No. 14 USC, No. 36 Oregon and Washington.
In doubles action, Fomba went 9-3, playing with Sameer Kumar, David Wilczynski, William Genesen and Sam Turchetta.
Stanford registered its best record in 15 seasons, with a 22-4 mark. The Cardinal, ranked in the top-five in the ITA poll for the majority of the season, finished No. 7 in the ITA rankings. Stanford reached as high as No. 2 in the rankings in February. The Cardinal earned the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Championships.
