STANFORD, Calif. – Head coach Kevin Hambly has announced the two freshmen who will join the women's volleyball team to help it defend its Pac-12 championship and contend for the program's eighth NCAA title.
The class consists of Holly Campbell (Austin, Texas) and Mackenzie Fidelak (Erie, Colorado).
"We are very excited to welcome Holly and Mackenzie to the Stanford family," said Hambly, who begins his second season on The Farm. "Both young women are a great fit for Stanford academically and culturally in addition to as volleyball players. Holly and Mackenzie will both have a chance to compete to play immediately next season."
Campbell is a 6-4 middle blocker who played her prep career at Westlake High School in Austin. Her squad captured four straight district championships and reached the regional semifinals in 2014. Campbell was an Under Armour All-American as a senior and collected all-state honors in 2016 and 2017. A three-time first team all-district performer, she was the district MVP in 2016 and earned academic all-district in 2017.
Campbell played club for Austin Juniors, earning all-tournament honors and a silver medal at the junior national championships in 2017. A member of the 2017 U.S. Youth National Team, she competed at the Youth World Championships in Argentina last August.
Fidelak is a 6-1 outside hitter out of Niwot High School in Colorado. Her team won three conference titles and advanced to the state tournament in 2014, 2016 and 2017. The Cougars reached the semifinals at the state tournament her senior season. Fidelak was named Colorado's 4A Player of the Year and first team all-state as a senior. A three-time all-conference selection, she was the Conference Player of the Year in 2015 and 2017. She was also her high school's Co-Female Athlete of the Year, earning letters in volleyball and track and field.
Fidelak also competed for the Norco Juniors Volleyball Club. In 2017 and 2018, her squad was ranked No. 1 in the Rocky Mountain Region. They won gold and two bronze medals in the Open division at the 2017 USA junior national qualifiers. Her team took second, fourth and fifth in 2018.
The pair will join the Cardinal on its foreign tour in Europe this June. The team will travel through Slovenia, Croatia and Italy.
"The trip we are taking this summer with them will give them an advantage to get acclimated to our systems, style of play as well as a head start on developing relationships with their teammates and staff. We are all looking forward to working with them," explained Hambly.
