Italy Trip On Tap

STANFORD, Calif. - With two meets remaining in the season, No. 2 Stanford shifts its focus to international competition with a unique break in the schedule.

Stanford is headed to Italy for a 10-day trip that will feature competitions against national team athletes with stops in Milan, Florence, Como and Siena.

The Cardinal departs campus on Friday, March 23 and returns to The Farm on Sunday, April 1. Stanford is able to take a foreign trip and compete in an international competition once every four years, resulting in some form of overseas travel in a two-year cycle.

"We are fortunate to have the support of the University and Stanford Athletics to provide these cultural experiences," said head coach Thom Glielmi. "It can be challenging for student-athletes to study abroad and expand their scope of reference. I think this is one of the unique aspects of Stanford Athletics and a component that contributes to the student-athletes' ability to expand their global perspective. There is also a tremendous benefit to an athlete of an Olympic sport. The timing of this trip also allows our team to refresh prior to the start of the postseason."

All 18 members of Stanford's roster will make the trip, which represents the Cardinal's first international journey since visiting Norway in 2013.

Stanford returns to action on April 7, participating in the MPSF Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
