STANFORD, Calif. – Junior Abrahm DeVine and senior Tarek Abdelghany were named Pac-12 Swimmer and Diver of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the conference.
Abdelghany, a diver from Ladera Ranch, California, won two events at the Bruin Invitational this past weekend. After starting the meet with fourth place in the 3-meter on Friday, Abdelghany took over the meet with wins on the platform and 1-meter springboard.
His 765.45 in the platform on Saturday edged out Pac-12 rival Dashiell Enos of USC, while his 687.65 in Sunday's 1-meter final beat Hawaii's Johan Sandell for the win. Senior Ted Miclau was also in action at the Bruin Invite, notching third place on 3-meter (713.25), fourth on platform (695.45) and fifth on 1-meter (605.00).
DeVine, who hails from Seattle, won three individual events and swam the fastest freestyle leg of the meet in the 400-yard medley relay during Stanford's win over Pacific on Friday. DeVine won the 50-yard backstroke (22.42), 150-yard backstroke (1:16.04) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:48.28), helping his team finish second in the 400 medley relay with a 43.97 freestyle leg.
Stanford returns to action this weekend when it hosts Arizona on Friday at 2 p.m. PT and Arizona State on Saturday at Noon. Both meets will broadcast live at GoStanford.com.
