Cardinal Represents at Worlds

MONTREAL – The Stanford men's gymnastics program was well-represented over the weekend at the 47th FIG World Championships with sophomore David Jessen and alumnus Eddie Penev both competing.

Jessen stepped up to compete for the Czech Republic in the qualifying all-around finishing 35th overall. Highlights for the Cardinal included finishing 50th on parallel bars with a 13.333 and 61st on floor with a 13.066.

Penev entered the competition representing Team USA on floor and vault. In qualifiers, the former Cardinal finished 6th on floor with a 14.633 and 10th on vault with a 14.566 score.

While the top-eight scores in qualifiers advance to the event finals, due to a rule that only two athletes per country may compete in event finals, Penev was unable compete in the floor finals. Teammates Donnell Whittenburg and Yul Moldauer took second and third respectively in qualifiers ahead of Penev.

The Cardinal returns an elite roster in the 2018 season kicking-off January 13 at the Cal Benefit Cup. A full 2018 schedule can be found here.
