PLOVDIV, Bulgaria – Stephanie Grauer and Leigh Warner highlighted a strong representation from Stanford at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Grauer rowed in the six-seat for Canada in the eight, which captured the gold medal by open water in the A Final with a time of 6:09.890.
Warner served as the coxswain for the United States eight, which captured the silver in the A Final with a time of 6:16.440.
Elizabeth Sharis served in the bow seat of the U.S. double sculls entry, which placed fourth with a time of 7:06.420, behind Belarus, Italy and Greece.
Christine Cavallo, who won three Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships with the Stanford lightweight rowing program, and Emily Delleman rowed for the U.S. in the quadruple sculls. With Cavallo in the bow seat and Delleman in the two-seat, the U.S. entry placed sixth in the A Final with a time of 6:39.160.
Meg Saunders represented Great Britain in the four. She stroked the Great Britain entry to a sixth-place finish in the A Final with a time of 6:51.190.
Alie Rusher stroked the U.S.'s four to a 10th-place finish, placing fourth in the B Final with a time of 6:59.570.
Five Cardinal rowers were members of Stanford's varsity eight last season, with four of the five – Warner, Rusher, Sharis and Grauer – in the Cardinal's top boat all year. Warner has coxed Stanford's varsity eight each of the last two seasons. Stanford's varsity eight captured second place at the NCAA Championships May 28 in New Jersey. Delleman, who competed in several regattas in the varsity eight during the regular season, rowed in the three seat of Stanford's second varsity eight at the NCAA Championships. She helped guide the boat to a ninth-place finish at the NCAA's.
