STANFORD, Calif. - No. 10 Stanford coasted to a 6-1 victory over No. 32 Washington on Saturday afternoon in the 18th annual Zoom Marketing Spring Smash at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cardinal (17-2, 9-0 Pac-12) wrapped up an unbeaten regular season at home and remained in sole possession of first place in the conference.
After capturing the doubles point for a 1-0 advantage, Stanford quickly and convincingly rattled off five singles wins.
Caroline Lampl defeated Alexis Prokopuik 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot, increasing the Cardinal's lead to 2-0.
Emma Higuchi extended her winning streak to 17 with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph on court six, making it 3-0.
The clincher was provided by Melissa Lord on court two in the form of a 6-3, 6-2 win over Miki Kobayashi.
Taylor Davidson and Caroline Doyle were honored in a ceremony prior to the doubles competition. Members of Stanford's 2016 NCAA championship team that won it all as a No. 13 seed, Davidson and Doyle have been part of 75 victories on The Farm during their careers, while also guiding the Cardinal to 13 postseason wins and last year's Pac-12 title.
Stanford concludes its regular season on Saturday, April 22, at California. The match starts at 12 p.m. and will be televised live on Pac-12 Network. The Cardinal can secure its second consecutive Pac-12 title with a victory while the Golden Bears (15-3, 8-1 Pac-12) are looking for a share.
