STANFORD, Calif. – No. 15 Stanford takes to the road this weekend to continue Pac-12 play against No. 37 Washington and No. 23 Oregon. Matches are set for 5 p.m. PT Friday against the Huskies and 12 p.m. PT Sunday against the Ducks.
Last Time Out:
The Cardinal (13-5, 3-1 Pac-12) is coming off a split week where it upset No. 5 USC 4-1 on Friday before falling 4-2 to No. 10 UCLA on Sunday.
All-Time Series History:
Washington – The Cardinal and Huskies have been battling for 50 years since 1967 with Stanford dominating the series with a 40-3 record. Last year against UW, Stanford took a 4-1 win with Tom Fawcett claiming the clincher. Paul Goldstein is a perfect 2-0 against Washington.
Oregon – Another 50 year rivalry exists against the Ducks with Stanford dominating the series 30-2. Last year, the Cardinal won 4-2 in the regular season as well as 4-0 in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals. All-time Paul Goldstein is 3-0 against Oregon.
Fall Recap:
The Cardinal came off another successful fall campaign where Tom Fawcett helped lead the U.S. team to victory for the second straight year at the 2016 Master'U BNP Paribus International Team competition in France in November.
Fawcett also reached the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships and was the consolation runner-up in the National Individual Indoor Championships. He entered the season ranked No. 8 by the ITA.
In addition, Yale Goldberg and Sameer Kumar captured the ITA Northwest Regional doubles title. The duo fought off multiple match points in the championship en route to the title. The team entered the dual season ranked No. 15 by the ITA.
In the final tune-up of the season before dual play, the Cardinal traveled to the Sherwood Collegiate Cup in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Jack Barber, in his first match in 22 months after recovering from surgery, topped No. 11 Gage Brymer of UCLA before finishing as a semifinalist in the singles main draw.
