National Honor

STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore punter Jake Bailey was named the Ray Guy Punter of the Week by the Augusta Sports Council on Monday.

Bailey earned the national honor as he helped the Cardinal defense hold the Pac-12's second-highest scoring offense to just 10 points and 135 passing yards. The Solona Beach, California, native punted five times for 253 yards, including a career-long 61-yard punt. He averaged 50.6 yards per punt, and allowed just seven return yards for a net average of 49.2 yards. In addition, two of his punts pinned Colorado inside the 20-yard line.

Earlier this year, Bailey was named to the Ray Guy Award preseason watch list. He currently ranks 10th in the nation with an average of 45.40 yards/punt. That would also rank second all-time in a single season at Stanford (Doug Robison set the school record in 1987 at 45.70). Bailey has pinned 10 of his 27 punts inside the 20 this year, including five inside the 5-yard line, and has eight punts of 50 or more yards in Stanford's first seven games.

Up next for Bailey and the Cardinal is a Pac-12 road trip to Arizona for an 8 p.m. PT kickoff on FS1.
