STANFORD, Calif. -- Rising sophomore Brickelle Bro is set to represent Team USA at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sept. 7-18. The Stanford swimmer will compete in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly.
This will mark the second Paralympic Games for Bro as she finished fifth in the 400-meter freestyle in London in 2012. In high school, she set American records in the 1000-yard free and 1650-yard free, while as a freshman for Stanford at the Pac-12 Championships, she broke the 1650-yard free record again (19:56.87).
Opening Ceremonies are set for Sept. 7, and Bro's first event is scheduled for Sept. 8.
Bro had fibular hemimelia and amniotic band syndrome before birth, resulting in the amputation of both of legs below the knee.
