STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford placed four players on the IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region team, including two – Meg Lentz and Kelsey Murray – on the first team. Allie DaCar and Kelly Myers were named to the second team.
The all-region honors were the first for all four Cardinal honored.
Lentz, a fast and athletic team captain, led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers while holding Julia Glynn of Harvard scoreless. Lentz proved to be integral on the draw control as well, winning nine in Stanford’s win over San Diego State, while tying with Kelly Myers for the lead on the team with 50. In addition to the IWLCA honor, Lentz was named to the All MPSF First Team as well as to the MPSF All-Tournament Team.
Murray, the lynchpin of the Cardinal’s offense, led Stanford in goals, assists and points as well as ranks second in the MPSF in goals per game and fourth in assists per game. Murray has collected at least a point in every single game this season and scored five goals on three separate occasions. In addition to the IWLCA honor, Murray was named to the All MPSF First Team. Her 72 points on the year tie her for second all-time in Stanford single-season records with Rachel Ozer in 2013.
DaCar proved pivotal for the Cardinal this season with a phenomenal season defending the cage for Stanford so well that she is currently ranked in the NCAA in Save Percentage (18th), Saves (22nd), Goals-Against Average (23rd) and Saves Per Game (47th). She was named to the All-MPSF Second Team as well as the MPSF All-Tournament Team.
Kelly Myers, was one of the team’s primary draw takers, which the Cardinal led the NCAA at points in throughout the season. She and Meg Lentz led Stanford in draw controls with 50 each with Myers also ranking third in goals and caused turnovers.
By earning All-Region recognition, each is eligible for All-America consideration.
Lentz and Murray now join a select group of 12 players in Stanford history to receive first-team All-Region honors. In all, 22 Stanford players have made the All-Region first or second teams.
