SALT LAKE CITY – Two-time defending Pac-12 Conference champion Stanford posted the low score in the third round with a 7-under 348 to push their team lead to 12 strokes over Cal. The Cardinal takes a 29-under heading into the final round of the Pac-12 Championships at The Country Club on Sunday.
Stanford held a five-stroke lead over the Golden Bears heading into the third round, then increased its lead behind the play of sophomore Franklin Huang, who posted a 3-under 68 and junior Maverick McNealy with a 2-under 69.
“It’s a team effort for sure,” stated Stanford coach Conrad Ray. “The setup was tough, the wind was blowing, and it was kind of chilly. I was proud of our guys and we just ground it out. Cal and USC are great teams, so we know that we have a lot of golf left to play tomorrow."
David Boote is one of a trio of league seniors tied for second at 9-under following his 1-under 70. Huang is fifth at 7-under and McNealy is tied for eighth with a 4-under to round out the top-10 for the Cardinal.
For the second straight round of the championships, The Country Club course record of 7-under 64 was tied as Washington State sophomore Zach Anderson posted Saturday’s low round, matching the opening-round performance of Jeffrey Swegle.
The championships will conclude with the final round on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. PT.
