Heading To San Diego

STANFORD, Calif. – Top-ranked Stanford lightweight rowing will travel south to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic this weekend on Mission Bay.

Stanford, the defending IRA champions and the top-ranked program in this week’s USRowing Coaches poll, is coming off victories over UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego and Western Washington in its six races at the Pac-12 Challenge last weekend at Redwood Shores.

Stanford will field two boats in the San Diego Crew Classic. The Cardinal eyes its sixth straight lightweight eight championship in the event as it competes for the  A.W. Coggeshall Cup. The Cardinal will also participate in the Women’s Open Event, competing for the Carley Copley Cup. 

Head Coach Derek Byrnes’ crew will begin competition on Saturday at 12:28 p.m. PT, racing in the second heat of the open event against crews from California, SDSU, UC Santa Barbara, Chapman and British Columbia.

The Stanford varsity eight will look to defend its A.W. Coggeshall Cup when it faces Princeton and Boston University at 12:08 p.m. PT on Sunday.
