• Stanford, the only Pac-12 program with a 2-0 conference record, returns home Saturday from a two-game road trip to play host to Arizona.
• The Cardinal (3-1 overall, 2-0 Pac-12) sits atop the Pac-12 North Division standings with two road wins in as many outings. Most recently, the Cardinal picked up a 42-24 win at Oregon State while rushing for 331 yards. Stanford’s defense limited the Beavers to 111 yards rushing, all of which came in the first half.
• The Cardinal, which fell from the polls after a season-opening loss at Northwestern, enters the matchup ranked 18th by the AP and 20th by USA Today.
• Saturday will mark the 29th meeting between Stanford and Arizona. Stanford has won nine of its past 12 meetings with the Wildcats, including the past three. Arizona opened the series by winning 11 of the first 16 affairs, but has not defeated Stanford since 2006.
• Stanford has scored at least 37 points in each of its past four games against Arizona.
• Stanford won in overtime, 54-48, when the programs last met in 2012. In that contest, both teams shelved exactly 617 yards of total offense.
• Stanford head coach David Shaw is undefeated against six Pac-12 opponents, including Arizona. In addition to the Wildcats, the Cardinal has not lost to Cal, Colorado, UCLA and Washington State during Shaw’s tenure.
• Stanford’s offense struggled to put up points in a 16-6 season-opening loss at Northwestern. Since then, the Cardinal is one of 11 FBS teams to score at least 31 points in each of their past three contests, and one of five to do so without facing an FCS program.
• Under Shaw, Stanford is 2-0 vs. Oregon State, 30-8 in Pac-12 regular season games, 25-3 at home, 13-4 in October, 31-11 coming off a win, 29-4 against unranked opponents, 19-6 when ranked higher than an opponent, 22-8 in night games and 6-2 on Pac-12 Networks.
• Since 2010, Stanford is 40-5 in games played in California (2-0 in 2015, 7-2 in 2014, 7-2 in 2013, 10-0 in 2012, 7-1 in 2011, 7-0 in 2010).
• Stanford and Texas are the only schools among the 68 Power 5 and independent programs to play 12 FBS opponents, 11 of which are Power 5 schools or Notre Dame. Five of Stanford’s 12 regular-season opponents -- No. 7 Oregon, No. 8 USC, No. 11 Notre Dame, No. 13 UCLA and No. 22 Arizona -- were ranked in the AP’s preseason top 25.
• Stanford requires students to declare a major before their junior year. Among the team’s upperclassmen, 16 majors are represented. Eleven Cardinal are engineering majors. Majors with three or more Cardinal student-athletes: communication, economics, human biology, management science and engineering, psychology, public policy, and science, technology and society.
• No program in the nation has a higher graduation rate over the past four years than Stanford (99%). Furthermore, no Pac-12 Conference team has had more draftees over the past four years than Stanford (19).
• Stanford’s entire full-time coaching staff from the 2014 season returned for the 2015 campaign. It’s the first time since 1999-2000 under Tyrone Willingham that Stanford’s staff remained intact.
• Stanford’s roster includes student-athletes from 28 states and Canada.
• Fifth-year senior QB Kevin Hogan, senior LG Joshua Garnett, senior LT Kyle Murphy, fifth-year senior CB Ronnie Harris, fifth-year senior OLB Kevin Anderson and senior ILB Blake Martinez serve as captains, as voted by their teammates. Hogan is Stanford’s first two-time team captain since Bo McNally (2008-09).
