No. 2 Stanford earned a convincing 21-9 victory at No. 3 Illinois in a special head-to-head format competition Friday night.
The Cardinal (7-2, 4-1 MPSF) proved victorious in a meet that put individual gymnasts against one another with the higher-scoring gymnast earning a point for their team.
In traditional scoring, Stanford earned a 440.300-420.400 victory outscoring Illinois in all six events. The Cardinal flourished on floor (75.200) and vault (74.900) registering season bests in each event.
Akash Modi claimed all three of Stanford’s individual event victories, placing first on floor (15.550), pommel horse (15.250) and parallel bars (15.500). Modi has earned 17 individual event victories against NCAA teams this season: all-around (4), parallel bars (4), floor (3), pommel horse (3), rings (2), and high bar (1).
Stanford’s regular season concludes its regular season Sunday when it travels to UIC at 11 a.m. PT.
