NOTRE DAME, Ind. - No. 8 Stanford completed a sweep of its first road trip of the season, putting away No. 31 Ohio State 4-1 in a neutral-site match.
Stanford (4-0), which defeated host No. 19 Notre Dame 6-1 on Friday, cleared the first hurdle of a challenging nonconference road slate, which also includes contests against Duke and Florida in Gainesville, Fla., later this month.
Ohio State (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season and will face Notre Dame on Sunday.
Despite falling behind early, the Cardinal locked up the doubles point for a 1-0 lead with 6-4 victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots.
Caroline Doyle and Taylor Davidson opened singles play with convincing straight-set wins, extending Stanford’s lead to 3-0.
Miho Kowase then defeated Ellen Tsay 6-4, 6-0, accounting for Ohio State’s only point of the match.
Carol Zhao followed with the clincher, a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Anna Sanford at the top spot of the lineup.
The sophomore trio of Davidson, Doyle and Zhao improved to 12-0 combined through the first four duals of the season.
Stanford returns home next weekend, welcoming Harvard (Saturday, Feb. 14 at 12 p.m. PT) and Vanderbilt (Sunday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. PT) to Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
