KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Freshman Shannon Aubert returned to her home state to take third in her collegiate debut at the Annika Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at Reunion’s Watson Course.
Top-ranked Stanford (286-293-285) was fourth at even-par among the 12-team field. South Carolina (-10) won the event ahead of Arizona (-3) and Oklahoma State (-2).
“I was pretty pleased with our overall performance and very encouraged by what I saw this week,” said Anne Walker, Stanford’s Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women’s Golf. “At the same time, I was excited because I feel confident we have some areas that could use significant attention over the coming weeks. With efficient and focused practice, I think we will be right where we want to be when it matters.”
Aubert, a Sunshine State native and two-time individual state champion as a prep, led the Cardinal women’s golf team with a three-round 6-under 210 at the par-72 course.
Born in France, Aubert made her way to The Farm by way of Orlando, where she spent most of her teenage years playing and practicing at Reunion with many of Annika Sorenstam’s coaches.
Aubert started the tournament on her home course at 2-under, adding a 1-over 73 in her second round before finishing strong Tuesday with a 5-under 67, which included six birdies.
“Shannon was terrific this week,” Walker said. “It was her home course, and that really showed in her putting. She was confident with her reads and made a lot of birdie putts.”
All-American Mariah Stackhouse tied for ninth at 2-under, which included rounds of 70-72-72.
Casey Danielson (73-75-72) tied for 29th at 4-over, notching nine birdies during the course of the 54-hole event.
Lauren Kim also tied for 29th with rounds of 73-73-75.
Making her collegiate debut along with Aubert was Calli Ringsby (72-75-78), who tied for 50th with a 12-over for the tournament.
Stanford hits the road again next week for the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational (Oct. 7-8) hosted by Washington.
