SAN DIEGO – The No. 1 Stanford women’s volleyball team moved to 10-0, Saturday, with a 25-10, 25-12, 25-21 win over CSUN (9-3) in the USD Invitational at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego, Calif.
Junior middle blocker Inky Ajanaku, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Cardinal with 11 kills on a .667 attack percentage and two blocks. Joining her on the all-tournament team was redshirt freshman middle blocker Merete Lutz, who hit .600 (9-0-15) and collected four blocks.
Junior setter Madi Bugg was named the tournament’s MVP, finishing with 36 assists and six digs against the Matadors. Senior opposite Morgan Boukather notched nine kills and three blocks on a .438 hitting percentage, while junior outside hitter Brittany Howard added eight kills and eight digs.
Junior Jordan Burgess finished with a match-high 14 digs, while senior libero Kyle Gilbert tallied 13. Junior Megan McGehee tied her career high with three aces.
Cieana Stinson led CSUN with 10 kills, while Danetta Boykin chipped in with nine kills.
Since 1986, Stanford has gone undefeated against non-conference opponents during the regular season seven times, including 10-0 this year.
Stanford returns to The Farm next week to open Pac-12 Conference play against California on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks. The Cardinal will also host Washington State on Friday, Sept. 26 to open Pac-12 play.
