STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford sand volleyball team registered a 5-0 sweep over San Jose State, Tuesday, at the ACSR Sand Courts in Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal moves to 2-6 on the season, while the Spartans fall to 0-9.
It marked the first shutout of the season for the Cardinal. Sophomore Inky Ajanaku and junior Kyle Gilbert clinched the win at the No. 3 spot, defeating Lauren Jacobsen and Cori O’Donoghue 22-20, 21-18.
Junior Morgan Boukather and sophomore Megan McGehee started things off for the Cardinal with a 21-4, 21-12 decision against San Jose State’s Lyndsay Albiani and Sabrina Webb in the No. 5 position.
Sophomore Madi Bugg and freshman Kelsey Humphreys, playing in the No. 4 spot, notched their first win of the year with a 21-12, 21-15 win over Brittney Diffine and Lindsay Skadeland.
Playing as the No. 1 pair, sophomore Brittany Howard and senior Carly Wopat won their third-straight dual match , defeating McKenzie Palassou and Megan Powers, 21-14, 21-13.
Junior Lauren Birks and sophomore Jordan Burgess capped off the scoring with a 21-11, 21-17 win over Kiely Pieper and Tyanna Roy.
Stanford returns to the sand on Thursday, April 10 to play host to No. 9 Saint Mary’s. The Cardinal and Gaels will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the ACSR Sand Courts.
