STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 7 Stanford women’s volleyball team swept 16th-ranked Arizona State, 25-17, 25-19, 25-22, Friday, at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal moves to 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Pac-12, while the Sun Devils fall to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Senior Rachel Williams led the Cardinal with nine kills, six digs and three blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Inky Ajanaku added eight kills and a season-best nine blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Burgess chipped in with seven kills and six digs.

Senior Carly Wopat finished with seven kills on 12 attempts with just one error to hit .500 in the match. She also tallied five blocks, moving her into fourth-place all-time on Stanford’s career charts with 508.

Sophomore Madi Bugg recorded 34 assists, three kills and three blocks in the win. Junior libero Kyle Gilbert finished with 12 digs, her ninth match of the season in double-digits. The Cardinal hit .305 as a team, while the Sun Devils posted a .152 attack percentage. Stanford finished with 14 team blocks.

Stanford won the opening set 25-17, hitting .290 as a team. The Cardinal registered five blocks in the set and limited itself to just five errors, while the Sun Devils committed 12. Ajanaku led the team with five kills and three blocks. Williams added three kills, while Wopat tallied two blocks. Sophomore Macey Gardner paced the Sun Devils with five kills and two digs.

The Cardinal rolled to a 25-19 win in the second set. Stanford posted a .464 attack percentage, while holding ASU to a .276 clip. The set remained close early on as there were five tie scores and four lead changes. Wopat led Stanford going 6-for-7 with no errors. Williams chipped in with three kills and four digs. ASU freshman middle blocker BreElle Bailey tallied five kills in the set to lead the Sun Devils.

Stanford held off ASU 25-22 to complete the sweep. The Sun Devils racked up 13 attack errors in the set as neither team posted a high hitting percentage (Stanford - .194; ASU - .062). Williams and Burgess each registered three kills to lead Stanford. Ajanaku notched five blocks in the third, while Gilbert collected six digs. Gardner finished with 17 kills to lead ASU.

Stanford hits the road next week, travelling to Los Angeles to take on No. 11 UCLA and No. 4 USC. Both matches will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
