History
  • Acclaimed as one of the largest swimming facilities in the nation, the former deGuerre Pool complex, named after Dorothy and Sidney deGuerre, was finished in 1972 at a cost of $2,200,000. The newly renovated Avery Aquatic Center serves as the home for the amends and women's swimming and diving teams, the men's and women's water polo teams, and the synchronized swimming team. The complex includes four separate pools: the Avery Stadium Pool, the Maas Diving Center, the Belardi Pool, and the Baker Recreation Pool. (More Information)

Location & Directions

  • Avery Aquatic Center is located in the center of a majority of Stanford's athletic facilities. It is between the Taube Family Tennis Stadium and Sunken Diamond, and is across from Elliot Field, the football practice field. The event entrance is on the northeast side via the plaza, adjacent to Chuck Taylor Grove.

From Highway 101 North & South:

  • Take the Embarcadero Road exit west towards Stanford. At El Camino Real, Embarcadero turns into Galvez Street. Cross El Camino Real and continue on Galvez. Turn left on Nelson Road and proceed into the Varsity Parking Lot. The Avery Aquatic Center entrance is at the front right of the Varsity Lot.

From Highway 280 North & South: You have three alternative routes.

  • Exit Sand Hill Road east towards Stanford. Continue on Sand Hill until you reach the Stanford Shopping Center. Turn right on Arboretum Road and make another right on Galvez Street. Then make a left onto Nelson Road and proceed into the Varsity Parking Lot. The Avery Aquatic Center entrance is at the front right of the Varsity Lot.
  • Exit Alpine Road east towards Stanford. Turn right at the first traffic light onto Junipero Serra Blvd. Turn east at the next traffic light onto Campus Drive West. Continue on Campus Drive until you reach Galvez Street, where youll take a left. Turn left on Nelson Road and proceed into the Varsity Parking Lot. The Avery Aquatic Center entrance is at the front right of the Varsity Lot.
  • Exit Page Mill Road towards Palo Alto. Turn left at the second traffic light onto Junipero Serra Blvd. Continue on Junipero Serra Blvd. and turn right onto Campus Drive East. Take a right on Galvez Street, then make a left onto Nelson Road and proceed into the Varsity Parking Lot. The Avery Aquatic Center entrance is at the front right of the Varsity Lot.

Seating

  • The capacity of Avery Aquatic Center is 2,480 for fixed seating. With compatibility for 25 disabled seats (with 50 companion), the total seating becomes 2,530. Avery Aquatic Center has aluminum bleacher-style seating in the grandstands.

Parking & Maps

Public Parking(Free)

  • Parking is located in the Varsity Parking Lot. It can be accessed via Nelson Road, off of Galvez Street, north of Stanford Stadium.

Disabled Guests

  • Enter gates behind stands to access grand stand level seating.

Gates Open

  • Gates open one hour prior to the start of events.

Guest Services

  • Guest Services is located at the main entrance with any Redcoat or Event Manager. Lost and found articles are handled with them.

Dimensions

  • The Avery Stadium Pool is 37 meters long and 20 meters wide. It tapers from 11 feet to 14 feet deep and features dual one-meter and three-meter Maxiflex springboards on the south end. The Maas Diving Center pool is 25 meters wide, 17 meters long, and 18 feet deep. The Maas Diving Center features a concrete dive tower with platforms at 1, 3, 5, 6, and 10 meters. The platforms are covered with Mondo Surfacing. The dive tower is flanked on each side with dual one-meter and three-meter Maxiflex springboards. The Belardi Pool is 50 meters long, 25 yards wide and tapers to a depth of 11 feet in the center. The Baker Recreation Pool is also 50 meters long and 25 meters wide, and varies from 4.5 to 8.5 feet deep.

Locker Rooms

  • The Sandy Foundation Team Room (Mens) is located on the east side of the pool deck. The Harold A. Miller Team Room (Womens) is located on the west side of the deck level. Both rooms were refurbished by Joan and Mell Lane in 1996. In 2000, two additional team locker rooms were completed. The Mens Timkin Team Room and the Womens Team Room are now in use.

Pay Phones

  • A pay phone is located on the deck of the pool near the diving well. Additional phones are located outside the entrance to Sunken Diamond.

Restrooms

  • Restrooms are located on the east and west sides of the stands on the Plaza Level.

Scoreboard

  • The Avery Stadium Pool has a new scoreboard on the north end of the pool, installed and built by Daktronics.

Prohibited Items

  • Animals (except service animals)
  • Balls and frisbees
  • Banners, signs and poles
  • Bicycles, rollerblades and skateboards
  • Coolers
  • Cans and glass containers
  • Horns and any artificial noisemakers
  • Lawn furniture
  • Strollers
  • Weapons and any dangerous items
  • Distribution of any material is prohibited

Smoking

  • Smoking is not allowed in the aisles or seating sections.

Ticket Policies

Infant Admission

  • Children under two years of age are allowed in without a ticket, but must share a seat with their guardian.
