Acclaimed as one of the finest swimming facilities in the nation, the Avery Aquatic Center serves as the home for all of Stanford's aquatic teams.
The pool complex includes four separate pools -- a competition pool (diving, swimming, water polo, & sychronized swimming), a diving well (1m & 3m springboardand, 3m, 5m, 7m & 10mplatform), and two Olympic-sized training and recreation pools.
The competition pool is 37 meters long, by 20.3 meters wide, and with a minimum depth of 2.2 meters, making it ideal for water polo. Overflow gutters and the water depth create one of the premier facilities in the nation. The complex, which has a seating capacity of 2,600, also includes a diving pool equipped with Durafirm and Maxiflex boards.
The two Olympic-sized training pool (50 meters by 25 yards) is utilized for both long course and short course training, with ten 50-meter long course lanes and twenty-one 25-yard short course lanes. The 50-meter pool also provides an all deep 30-meter course for water polo and is used for University recreational purposes.
The Athletic Department has recently completed an expansion and renovation of the Avery Aquatic Center. Made possible by a lead gift from Burt and Marion Avery, along with gifts from numerous other benefactors, the new Avery Aquatic Center is the largest aquatic facility in the nation, befitting Stanford's status as a national leader in swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming.
The first phase of construction included a new 50-meter pool with a movable bulkhead, the Maas Family
Diving Complex with four springboards and a 10-meter tower, additional support space including locker rooms and offices, and ADA accessibility upgrades to the old facility. The second phase included renovation of the stadium pool and surrounding area. The stadium pool is able to host high-level events in all four aquatic sports, either day or night.
In addition to Stanford's varsity sports teams, the Avery Aquatic Center will serve the needs of many other groups, including lunch-time lap swimmers, students enrolled in aquatics classes, masters swimmers, intramural athletes, summer camp participants and community groups. The facility may also attract a wide range of national and international competition.
