STANFORD, Calif. - The 15th-ranked Stanford women's lacrosse team delivered a strong overall performance Wednesday afternoon, defeating Saint Mary's, 20-6.
Stanford (8-3, 3-1 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) dominated offensively, outshooting Saint Mary's (3-7, 1-4 MPSF), 40-15, and claiming a 21-7 draw control advantage.
Rachel Ozer led Stanford with six points, recording a hat trick and three assists. Ozer has scored in all 11 games this season and leads Stanford in points (46), goals (31) and assists (15).
Freshmen Julia Burns and Adrienne Anderson each tallied four points apiece. Anderson recorded her first collegiate hat trick and added an assist, while Burns tied her career-best of four goals in a single game.
Anna Kim picked up a team-high seven draw controls for Stanford, which is tied for the third-most in a single game in program history.
Stanford was strong defensively and held Saint Mary's to just one goal in the second half. The Cardinal held advantages in ground balls (10-8) and caused turnovers (14-11).
Lyndsey Munoz and Katie Wiseman split time evenly in net, with Munoz making three saves and Wiseman making one.
Burns opened the game's scoring with her first goal at 28:36, and tallied her second just 10 seconds later to give Stanford the early 2-0 lead.
Saint Mary's Amanda Cross responded with her own pair of goals just minutes later to knot the game at 2-2.
Rachel Ozer and Meredith Kalinowski notched a goal each, to expand Stanford's lead to 4-2, before Cross netted her third of the day to cut the lead to one.
The score would not remain close for long, however, as the Cardinal went on a 6-0 scoring run that lasted just over 13 minutes to stretch its lead to 10-3.
Jillian Chong stopped the Saint Mary's scoring drought with 9:20 remaining in the first and Cross followed with her fourth goal of the half.
Annie Anton added a goal for the Cardinal with 45 seconds to play in the first to give Stanford an 11-4 lead, and momentum, going into halftime.
Stanford did not let up in the second half and outscored the Gaels, 9-1. The Cardinal opened the half on a 4-0 scoring run, receiving two goals from Anna Kim and Burns.
After a goal by Saint Mary's Rachel Minarovich at the 23:17 mark, Stanford closed the game on a 5-0 scoring run.
Stanford will look to carry its momentum into its matchup at No. 4 Northwestern on Sunday, April 14 at 11 a.m. (PT).
