STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford rang in the New Year with a 159-92 men's swimming dual meet win over Pacific Saturday at the Avery Aquatic Center. The Cardinal recorded the top time in each of the events on the day.
"This was a great chance for us to race after a great holiday training period," Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming Ted Knapp said. "The team had the opportunity to improve on their mental toughness and focus. We're looking forward to getting back into the academic calendar and traveling to Arizona in late January."
Next up for No. 8 Stanford (2-0) is the Bruin Diving Invitational (Jan. 11-13) in Los Angeles, Calif. The Cardinal will travel to Arizona State (Jan. 25) and Arizona (Jan. 26) for a Pac-12 Conference twinbill later this month.
A 1:28.52 in the 200 medley relay gave David Nolan, Aaron Wayne a victory to start the day for the Cardinal.
Drew Cosgarea (9:34.94) and Ben Holston (9:54.62).
Sean Duggan won the 200 free in 1:39.53 ahead of Ethan Hallowell (1:39.79) and Chris Pickard (1:41.08).
The 100 back saw Matthew Swanston earn first-place points in 49.02 as Will Gunderson (50.18) was second and Matt Thompson (50.62) finished third.
Mack Montgomery (1:47.58) touched first in the 200 fly in front of a trio of other Cardinal swimmers.
Wayne (20.43), Andrew Saeta (20.53) and Jake Hartley (20.88) swept the top three spots in the 50 free.
Ethan Hallowell (45.53) was the first of four Cardinal to finish in the 100 free.
Nolan (1:46.63) won the 200 back and Robert Hommel (2:07.60) duplicated the feat in the 200 breast.
Mitchell Stoehr (4:35.28) logged the fastest time in the 500 free and Ben Lovell (49.20) bested all swimmers in the 100 fly.
Hommell (3:59.06) led all swimmers in the 400 individual medley.
Nolan, Wayne, Saeta and Duggan teamed to touch first in 2:59.59 to close the day in the 400 free relay.
