STANFORD, Calif.- No. 5 Stanford opened its dual match season with a 6-1 victory over UC Davis on Thursday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Stanford (1-0) captured the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead, collecting wins at the top two spots of the lineup while the match on court three was abandoned.
The Cardinal dominated singles play against UC Davis (1-3, 0-0 Big West), clinching the match thanks to a sequence of quick straight-set victories in the middle of the lineup.
Kristie Ahn followed with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph on court three, making it 3-0.
Ellen Tsay secured the victory at the No. 4 spot, breezing past Ellie Edles 6-0, 6-2.
Also collecting wins in the opener were Krista Hardebeck, the highly-touted rookie currently ranked No. 2 in the country, and Nicole Gibbs, the reigning NCAA singles and doubles champion.
