STANFORD, Calif. - Third-ranked Stanford made its home debut of the 2012-13 campaign in grand fashion with a 184-104 domination of No. 25 Wisconsin Friday at the Avery Aquatic Center.
A midweek Pac-12 Conference meeting with California now awaits the Cardinal (1-0), with Wednesday's dual meet at Avery Aquatic Center slated to begin at 3 p.m. (PT). Live results will be available at GoStanford.com.
Will Gunderson, David Nolan, Matthew Swanston and Aaron Wayne started the show by going 3:15.65 for the win in the 400 medley relay, nearly six seconds ahead of the Stanford's second-place tandem of Tom Kremer, Sebastian Wigstrom, Gary Umbach and Andrew Saeta (3:21.11).
Youth was served in the 1,000 free as Danny Thomson (9:07.31) finished first in front of Matt Thompson (9:25.98). Mitchell Stoehr's 9:31.87 gave Stanford a 1-2-3 showing in the distance event.
Bryan Offutt (1:39.28) led Stanford in the 200 free with a second-place performance and Swanston (49.52) touched first for a win in the 100 back, edging out second-place Saeta (49.57).
Mason Shaw (55.99) and Wigstrom (58.21) went 1-2 in the 100 breast.
Mack Montgomery (1:49.26), Kremer (1:50.14) and Thomas Stephens (1:50.28) teamed to top the field in the 200 fly.
Dashing to post a win in the 50 free was Jake Hartley (20.48), the first of the top four Cardinal swimmers in the standings. Sean Duggan (20.69), Jack Lane (20.76) and James Ross (21.56) followed suit.
Kristian Ipsen (400.95) put on a show off the 1-meter board to win the event. Ipsen saved his best performances on the day for the 3-meter, posting 406.80 points to lead the field.
Duggan (45.57) raced his way to first in the 100 free and Thompson (1:47.66) replicated the feat in the 200 back.
Shaw (2:02.81) stroked to gold in the 200 breast while Wisconsin picked up a win behind Michael Weiss' 4:26.97 in the 500 free. Wayne (48.15) flew by the field in the 100 fly.
Stanford finished the day with a 1:20.21 in the 200 free relay as Nolan, Wayne, Saeta and Hartley each turned in sub-21.00 second 50-yard dashes to top the field.
