SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 3 Stanford women's soccer team held an opponent without a shot for the first time in school history in beating UNC Greensboro, 4-0, at the Santa Clara Classic at Buck Shaw Stadium on Sunday.

Stanford (6-1-1) got goals from four different players and earned its fourth consecutive shutout while outshooting the Spartans, 25-0.

In a program history that began in 1984, Stanford had held an opponent to one shot eight times, but never to none. UNCG (3-5) also failed to secure a corner kick, meaning Stanford goalkeepers Aly Gleason and Lindsay Dickerson had an uneventful day while the Cardinal extended its shutout streak to 413 minutes, 19 seconds.

Alex Doll put Stanford in front in the 22nd minute, but it wasn't until the second half when the Cardinal broke the match open, scoring three goals from the 55th to 63rd minutes. Courtney Verloo scored for the second consecutive match and earned tournament MVP honors. Haley Rosen scored her first collegiate goal and Sydney Payne scored her fourth to move into a tie for the team season lead.

Stanford won the four-team event with a 2-0 record. Verloo, Gleason, and defenders Alina Garciamendez and Rachel Quon were named to the all-tournament team.

Stanford concluded its nonconference schedule and opens Pac-12 Conference play on Sunday, Sept. 23, against visiting Arizona State in a 2 p.m. match televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
