Final Stats

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Stanford made it three wins in a row, this time defeating archrival California, 9-8. Emilie Boeri scored the game winner with less than a minute to go as the Cardinal improved its chances of capturing the No. 3 seed in the MPSF tournament with a big win. Stanford is now 6-9 overall, but 4-2 in conference.

Stanford won a back-and-forth affair where neither team led by more than two goals after the early going. Stanford took an early 3-0 lead on goals from both Ann Boeri and Emilie Boeri, along with Emily Newstrom.

After a Cal goal, Catherine Swanson made it 4-1, but the Golden Bears rallied four three-straight goals to even things at 4-4.

Stanford scored two of the three goals before the half, to claim a 6-5 halftime lead. Newstrom scored a second goal, along with Annie Anton scoring the final goal of the half.

Stanford built its lead to 7-5 on an Anna Kim goal in the first minute of the second half, but Cal came back to tie it at 7-7.

Emilie Boeri scored at 15:08 left to play to give Stanford an 8-7 lead, but Cal tied it at 7:45 to play.

The two teams continued to play with a tie score until just 24 seconds to go when Boeri scored the game winner. The goal completed her hat trick and kept the Stanford momentum going.

Stanford was outshot 30-23 in the game, but Lyndsey Munoz was outstanding, making 11 saves.

Stanford will finish the regular season when it hosts Saint Mary's at Cagan Stadium on Sunday at 1pm. The Cardinal need a win to clinch the No. 3 seed in the MPSF tournament, but have never lost in 24 chances all-time against the Gaels. Sunday will also be senior day as the Boeri twins, Swanson and Maria Fortino will be honored.
