LOS ANGELES - Stanford's standout freshman Kristian Ipsen remained undefeated in his collegiate career by dominating the dives during a three-meet men's swimming and diving event at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium on Friday.
Ipsen, an Olympic hopeful, scored 462.60 points to win the 3-meter dive by 137 points against Cal and USC. He also scored 400.10 to win the 1-meter dive by 95 points.
Stanford, a non-scoring team in the Pac-12 Conference dual meet between Cal and USC, combined for three victories - Ipsen's and one by Chad La Tourette. The senior has not lost a 1,000-yard freestyle race since his freshman year and continued that streak with his season best.
La Tourette finished in 9:01.05 to shatter his previous season best of 9:07.77 from Oct. 14, 2011, and finishing ahead of U.S. junior national champion Adam Hinshaw, the Cal freshman from Saratoga High, who finished in 9:10.19.
All three teams return to the McDonald's Swim Stadium on Saturday for a noon meet. This time, Stanford (6-1) and USC (3-2), which lost to Cal 165-125, will compete in the dual and Cal will compete unofficially.
