LONG BEACH, Calif.-- Senior Chad La Tourette and freshman David Nolan won individual events as the Stanford men won four of five events at the Long Beach Arena Invite on Thursday.
The Cardinal closed out day won by setting a new meet record in the 400 medley relay, at 3:11.58, of which Nolan swam the fly. Nolan was also a part of the winning 200 free relay team as the Cardinal won four of five events.
In the 500 free, it was a guaranteed winner in the A Final as all eight finalists wore cardinal, as La Tourette (4:20.71) and Drew Cosgarea (4:21.78) paced the field. Rob Andrews made it a top-nine Stanford finish by winning the B Finals (4:27.60).
Stanford also had a distinct advantage in the 200 IM, placing the top-seven of eight in the top flight led by Nolan, who broke an six-year old meet record with a time of 1:44.69. Matt Thompson was also under Stanford's Hongzhe Sun's 2005 time of 1:46.08 with a mark of 1:45.97.
Aaron Wayne (19.95) and Geoff Cheah (20.05) finished 1-2 in the 50 free behind UC Santa Barbara's Chris Peterson and his time of 19.75. Stanford opened the night by winning the 200 free relay at 1:19.97 with Wayne and Cheah swimming the first two legs.
The nine-team men's Arena Invite runs through Saturday.
