Seattle, Wash. - Elliott Heath continued his brilliant season by winning the 5,000 meters at the Flotrack Husky Classic in a Stanford indoor record of 13:37.77. The time was an NCAA auto standard as Heath ran away from loaded field to win by almost three seconds.

Heath broke the Stanford record of 2008 U.S. Olympian Ian Dobson who ran 13:40.91 back in 2004. In fact, Heath moved ahead of two former Olympians who topped the Stanford indoor 5K list as 2000 U.S. Olympian Brad Hauser was second on the list after running 13:42.00 back in 1999.

The senior from Winona, Minn., now has NCAA auto standards in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, as well as anchoring the distance medley relay to a world best time so far this season.

Heath was not the only one to run well in the 5,000 meters for Stanford. Miles Unterreiner also broke the 14-minute barrier for the first time, running 13:56.64. Benjamin Johnson also had a good effort, running 14:14.52. Kevin Havel rounded out the 5,000-meter group with a time of 14:24.41.

In New Mexico, Amaechi Morton moved to second on the all-time 200 list after running 21.27 to finish as the meet runner-up and just four hundredths off the NCAA auto standard in the event. Tyrone McGraw made the final of the 60 meters, running a season-best time of 6.87 in the prelims. In the final, he ran 6.90 to place sixth. Colin Hepburn (6.99), Mark Mueller (7.07), Alex Lee (7.09) and Ryan Brown (7.15) each had a season best behind McGraw in the 60.

In the 400, Spencer Chase finished fourth overall with a season-best time of 48.25. Alfredo Corral was also under 49 seconds for the first time this season with a time of 48.59.

In the field, Jules Sharpe earned a new career best in the high jump after clearing 7-3. The mark should give Sharpe a good chance at making his first NCAA meet.

On the women's side in Washington, Stephanie Marcy led the way by running a career best in the 5,000 with a time of 16:16.97. The time moved Marcy up to seventh on the all-time Stanford indoor 5K list. Also running the 5,000 was Emilie Amaro who came through with a time of 17:34.44.

In New Mexico, the Cardinal set all sorts of season bests. Kori Carter earned a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles after running 8.33 in the prelims. Katie Nelms also ran under the previous school record of 8.42 set by Lindsey Johnson back in 2002 when she ran 8.41 in the prelims. In the final, Carter went onto win the meet, but did not improve her time.

Carissa Levingston excelled in the 60 meters, qualifying for the final and taking second after running a season-best time of 7.44.

In the 200 meters, Brittni Dixon-Smith led Stanford with a season-best time of 24.49, while Kellie Schueler ran 24.64, Carter ran 24.68 and Hannah Farley ran 24.74 to give Stanford four under 25 seconds.

Schueler also doubled in the 400 meters, running 55.25 to place eighth. She was tied with teammate Hannah Farley who ran the same time. Also doubling in the 200 and 400 meters was Taylor Dewberry who ran 25.63 and 57.61, respectively.

In the field, Whitney Liehr led the jumpers, finishing as the runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 20-4 ¼. She also doubled in the triple jump and finished fifth with a mark of 41-7 ¼. Karynn Dunn also fared well in the long jump, leaping 19-9. Adrienne Johnson placed eighth in the high jump with a mark of 5-5.

The Flotrack Husky Classic continues tomorrow as the majority of races and all of the field events will be contested. The Cardinal will look to continue the weekend much of the team seems to be setting new personal bests.
