Upperclassmen Keep Top-Ranked Cardinal Undefeated

TEMPE, Ariz.-- No. 1-ranked Stanford (6-0) won 14 of 16 events, easily cruising by host Arizona State (3-5) 174-120 on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinal dual win streak now rises to 31-straight matches dating back to 2008.

Upperclassmen Betsy Webb (100 free, 200 back), Kate Dwelley (200 fly, 100 fly) and Meg Hostage (one and three-meter diving) all won twice as the Cardinal finished 1-2 in eight events.

Webb won twice in the 100 free with a B standard of 22.87 and then in the 200 back (1:59.61) after leading off the winning 200 medley relay team which was finished off by Sam Woodward with a time of B standard of 1:40.95.

Dwelley, who picked up dual butterfly wins in the 200 fly with a B standard of 1:59.29 and in the 100 fly with another B mark of 54.36. She was also second in the 200 IM (2:01.44), by then an exhibition.

Hostage swept through the diving events scoring bests of 323.18 in the one-meter and 330.15 in the three-meter. Fellow senior, Kelsey Ditto finally topped the charts in the distances in the state of Arizona, winning after two runner-up finishes, winning the 500 free with a B standard of 4:49.54.

Andie Taylor, who had two wins on Friday in the team's win at No. 7 Arizona, won the 1000 free (9:47.77) and third behind Felicia Lee (2:00.38) and Dwelley in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.91, all B standard times.

The Cardinal return home next weekend when it hosts USC and UCLA at the Avery Aquatics Center on Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. It will also be the final home matches for seniors: Hostage, Dwelley, Smith, Kerry Kraemer and Ditto. The team's senior class, excluding Ditto who transferred in two years ago, is a combined 33-1 with the only loss to Arizona in 2008.
