Stanford, Calif. - The inaugural Pac-10-SEC Challenge is underway from the Stanford Golf Course with the Cardinal women currently sitting in a tie for 10th place. The tournament features seven of the top-10 teams in the nation and 21 squads overall.
No. 5 UCLA leads after one round, shooting a round of 1-over-par 285. The Bruins hold a one-stroke lead over No. 13 Arizona and No. 26 Auburn who are tied for second. No. 30 Washington is two back and No. 12 Arkansas in three back to round out the top five.
No. 36 Stanford shot a round of 9-over-par 293 and are tied with No. 7 Georgia for 10th. After a rough start, Stanford cleaned things up on the back nine and began its ascent up the leaderboard.
Rebecca Durham led the Cardinal, carding a round of even-par 71. The Cardinal senior made two birdies and two bogeys and currently sits tied for ninth, six strokes off the lead.
The individual leader is Joanne Lee of California who fired a round of 6-under-par 65. She holds a one-stroke lead over Marina Alex of Vanderbilt. Cydney Clanton of Auburn is third at 3-under-par 68.
Sydney Burlison carded a 1-over-par 72 in a round that included five birdies. At one point, Burlison got her score to 2-under, but closed by bogeying three of the last five holes. Burlison is tied for 22nd, seven strokes off the lead.
Sitting in a tie for 39th is Kristina Wong, who shot a round of 3-over-par 74. Wong bogeyed three of the first six holes, but then responded to make 12 straight pars.
Finally, Sally Watson and Lila Barton sit in a tie for 59th after each carding rounds of 5-over-par 76.
Stanford will be back in action with the second round of the tournament beginning at 7:30 am at the Stanford Golf Course. Admission to the event is free and spectators are welcome.
